Word has been received of the death of Richard L. Meyer, originally of Mason City. He went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2004, at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, Calif.

At his request there will be no funeral service. Interment will be at the Stout, Iowa, Cemetery near his parents.

Richard was born July 21, 1925, the son of Fred and Hattie (Brandt) Meyer. He attended schools in Mason City. Richard joined the U.S. Air Force in April 1948. He left for his air training command indoctrination at Lackland Air Base in San Antonio, Texas. Upon completion he was transferred to an Air Force Training School for specialized training. He eventually was sent to Okinawa.

While in Okinawa, Richard professes to be saved. He was raised with the word of God daily and his family prayed diligently for him. Richard was honorably discharged from the Air Force in Washington, D.C., when his years were completed. He later married Eunice and to this union three children were born; Hope Annette, Sharon and one son, Frederick. Eventually they moved back to Iowa where he worked on the farm. Several years later, Eunice and the children returned to Washington, D.C. They were divorced one year later. Richard then moved to Riverside, Calif., where he resided until his death.

He had a very good friend, Ramona, who helped him and especially two very dear and special friends, Don and Cathy Moberly of California. He was always a very happy person and he will be greatly missed. Richard had been in declining health for many years.

Richard is survived by twin sisters, Lorraine Brackey of Mason City and Lois Epple of Grants Pass, Ore., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
