Mrs. Fred Bolhuis, 86, Died Wednesday

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon July 21st, at the Reformed Church of Stout with Rev. Peter Koenen of Aplington officiating. Interment was made in the Stout Cemetery under the direction of Engelkes Funeral Home of Parkersburg.

Mrs. Bernard Schnell was organist. Vocalist, Mrs. Andy Nielsen, sang "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" and "God Will Take Care Of You." Casketbearers were Chris Bolhuis, Fred Bolhuis, Mervin Meyer, Garry Gersema, Fred Syhlman and Eldon Myers.

Mrs. Dorothy Bolhuis, daughter of Jerry and Etta Nuis Boelman, was born on December 25, 1886 in the Netherlands. She was united in marriage on Oct. 27, 1905 at Midwalter, Netherlands with Fred Bolhuis. The Bolhuis family came to America on Feb. 19, 1912. The family lived in the Stout community until 1943 when they retired and moved to Stout. Following the death of Mr. Bolhuis in 1956 she continued living in Stout until about eight years ago when she made her home for a number of years with her children. About 3 1/2 years ago she sustained a stroke and became a resident at the Shell Rock care center.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, one daughter, Edna (Mrs. Verb Syhlman) in 1968, two sisters and two brothers. Surviving are three sons and two daughters; Lawrence of Cedar Falls, Jerry of Parkersburg, Tena (Mrs. Harm Meyer) of Dike, Minnie (Mrs. John Gersema) of Shell Rock and Henry of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; three brothers, Cornell Boelman of New Richland, Minn., Henry of Ackley and George of Waterloo; three sisters Mrs. Geo. DeGroote of Shell Rock, Mrs. Sabo Bolhuis of Yokum, Oklahoma and Mrs. Rick Oester of Waterloo.
