FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JOHN MEINTS LAST FRIDAY

Funeral services for John Meints, who died on Tuesday of last week, were held on Friday, with a short service at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Bert Harrenstein, and later at the Wellsburg Reformed Church with the Rev. William Landsiedel in charge. The pastor selected for his text II Corinthians 7:10. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in German Township. Pallbearers were William Koch, Ibe Harms, Henry Aalfs, M.C. Bunger, B.H. Jaspers and T.K. Bunger.

Johan Meints was born in Wymeer, Ostfriesland, Germany, December 21, 1853. In November 1882 he immigrated to America where at first he made his home in Ackley. He was united in holy wedlock with Grace Mueller in April of 1884 and together they established their home on a farm near Ackley, Iowa. God blessed their union with five children, of whom one daughter, Ella, at the age of 19 years preceded her father in death in 1903. The home became motherless, taking the companion of the deceased on May 5, 1895 after 11 years of happy marriage. After conducting his household with the assistance of his children for a period of 22 years, he retired from the farm in 1917 and made his home in Wellsburg, Iowa where he desired to spend the evening of his life in peace. But God had planned differently.

About four years ago he was suddenly compelled to submit to an operation at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown. Although he was cured from his ailment, he never regained his strength, so that he had to make his home alternately with his children. Since June 1, 1940, he resided with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Albertus Harrenstein in Colfax Township. Since May 26th he became confined to bed after all medical care proved to be hopeless. The Lord offered unto him a time of grace which we hope will not have been in vain.

According to the wisdom of God his pilgrimage was terminated on Tuesday, July 22, 1941 at the ripe old age of 87 years, 7 months and 1 day. His departure is mourned by the four surviving children: Son, Jake (Anna) Meints of Holland, Iowa; Daughters, Helena (Mrs. Claus Harrenstein); Rieka (Mrs. Joe Eygabroad); Margaret (Mrs. Albertus Harrenstein) all of Wellsburg, Iowa; 24 grandchildren and one brother, Borchert Meints of Ackley; and many relatives and friends. May the God of all comfort soothe the bereaved.
