Mrs. Rozella Kann passed away at her home in Conrad at eleven o’clock Saturday night, following an extended illness.

Rozella Mowrey Kann, eldest daughter of William and Emily Mowrey was born May 14, 1863 in Dayton, Michigan. She passed away at her home in Conrad July 22nd, 1950, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 8 days. Her death followed an illness of several months. The Mowrey family with five children came to Iowa in 1874 in a covered wagon and settled near Brooklyn. On December 29, 1880, she was united in marriage to James D. Kann. To them were born two daughters. They lived in the Brooklyn community until 1924, when they came to Conrad. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December 1940. Mr. Kann died on Sept. 29, 1944.

Mrs. Kann was baptized in the United Brethren church in Brooklyn in February, 1889. She was an active worker in church affairs as long as her health permitted. Her daily bible reading was an important part of her life. The annual meetings of the Sunset Club were greatly enjoyed by her. “Grandma” Kann will be greatly missed by all her family, friends and neighbors.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edith Newton and Mrs. W. L. Johnston, both of Conrad; two sisters, Mrs. J. L. Evans of Ankeny, Iowa and Mrs. Ralph Smith of Moline, Ill.; two brothers, Elmer Mowrey and John Mowrey, both of Brooklyn; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home, with Rev. Alvin Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery.

Music was provided by Mrs. Ben Frederick and Mrs. Vane Graham, who sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Jesus, Savior Pilot Me”, accompanied by Evelyn Stevens.

Pallbearers were : Charles Reece, Harvey Strickler, W. G. Lounsberry, W. S. Crouse, George Crouse and Clarence Hunt.

The flowers were in charge of Elva Bristley, Mary Axtell, Alice Early and Mrs. G. L. Foust.
