Dies at St. Thomas

Mrs. W. C. Johnson, Conrad, Fails to Survive Operation

Many friends in this city will regret to learn of the death Tuesday at the St. Thomas hospital, of Mrs. W. C. Johnson, of Conrad, who passed away while undergoing an operation for gall bladder trouble. Her death was attributed to shock.

Mrs. Johnson was born Miss Maude A. Smith in Grundy county, May 28, 1874 and lived practically all of her life on the same farm. She was married in Conrad, in 1914, to W. C. Johnson and they continued to make their home on the Smith farm, one-half mile east of Conrad. Her father died in 1913, and besides her husband she is survived by one brother, Guy A. Smith of Sioux City, and her mother, Mrs. Anna Smith, who made her home with her daughter. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Conrad. At the time of her death she was vice chairman of the republican central committee for Grundy county.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were both well known in this city, Mr. Johnson being employed here. Funeral services will be held from the residence at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. Oliver Stevenson, of Toledo.

Note: Burial was made in the Conrad cemetery.
