Jeannette Diehl Services Held

Jeannette Diehl was born July 15, 1911 at Orange City the daughter of Albert and Hendrika Hofmeyer Slickers. She passed away Saturday, December 7 at Allen Memorial in Waterloo having attained the age of 80 years, 4 months, and 22 days.

Mrs. Diehl grew up and was educated in Orange City. On April 22, 1936 she was united in marriage to Myron Diehl at her parents' home in Grundy Center.

Jeannette and Myron owned and operated the M & J Cafe in Wellsburg. They then moved to Grundy Center where they lived and worked for over 50 years. Jeannette retired from Western Dressing in 1974. She loved to cook and play the organ for her father's choir, and also enjoyed reading and card playing.

Preceding Jeannette in death were her parents; husband Myron in 1989; and one brother, Arthur Slickers.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Darrel (Marilyn) Davis of Loveland, CO; one son, Darrell Diehl and wife Bev of Colorado Springs, CO; two brothers, William Slickers of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Al Slickers of Lafayette, Indiana; one sister, Harriet Harvey of Des Moines; and 1 grandson, Christopher.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 12 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
