Homer Townsend Services Held

Homer L. Townsend, 88 years, Bethany Lutheran Home, passed away Friday evening December 6 at his residence following a period of failing health. Born in Reinbeck, he has lived most of his life in Council Bluffs. He completed two years at Cornell University and received his BA degree from the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. He taught a short while in Minnesota and then spent forty-five years teaching science at Thomas Jefferson High School, retiring in 1965.

He was a fifty year member of the Astral Masonic Lodge in Preston. He and his wife, Alverda have been married fifty seven years.

Survivors include his wife, Alverda; two sisters, Genevieve Rask of Oronoc, Minnesota, and Lucille Page of Shreveport, Louisiana; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 10 at 9 a.m. at the Meyer Funeral Home. Dr. James V. Poulsen, pastor Broadway United Methodist Church officiated the services. Graveside services and interment were held Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. at the Morrison Cemetery.

Meyer Funeral Home in Council Bluffs were in charge of the arrangements.
