William G. Denio
William G. Denio was born at LeRoy, New York, November 4, 1820. He was married to Albina Herrick in November 1841. In 1851 he was ordained to the ministry and preached in his native state for a number of years and has ever since been a faithful member of the Baptist church. He came to Grundy county, Iowa, in 1877, where he lived on a farm southwest of town. In 1885 he re-entered the ministry and preached in Oxford, Neb., for three years. Then he came to Iowa again and has since made this county his home. The last time he filled the pulpit was to preach the funeral sermon of Mrs. Wass in this place some nine years ago.
Deceased was a faithful friend and a consistent christian man. He was well-known throughout the county and leaves many who will speak a good word for his charitable life and excellent character. He leaves his aged widow and seven children to mourn his death. He was feeble for a number of years and when death came it was only the passing beyond of a spirit ever active and full of hope for the future. He died Sunday afternoon, January 15, 1899, aged 79 years.
The funeral was conducted from the Baptist church, January 18, Rev. Marsh, the pastor, officiating, and was buried in Rose Hill cemetery west of town.
The family have the sympathy of their friends in their loss. The children living are: Mrs. D. O. Collins, Mrs. J. H. Essig, Mrs. C. D. Mason of this place, Mrs. Thos. Anderson of Omaha, Mrs. Shattuck of Montkon, Vt., and F. G. and J. W. Denio of Iowa Falls.
