Rev. Buschman Services Held

Rev. E. H. Buschman, son of Lubertus and Albertje Sternborg Buschman, was born near Goodell on July 1, 1897. He passed away Saturday, November 23 at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington having attained the age of 94 years, 4 months and 22 days.

Rev. Buschman attended rural schools and graduated from Pleasant Prairie Academy at German Valley, Illinois. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central College at Pella. After taking work at New Brunswick, New Jersey, he attended Western Seminary in Holland, Michigan and graduated from the Presbyterian Seminary, Dubuque, in 1934.

On June 28, 1934 he married Emma Harken of Aplington at the Dubuque Seminary Chapel in Dubuque. Together they served four churches; Minden, Iowa; Zalmona Presbyterian Church, Waukon; First Presbyterian Church at Lakota; and Zion Presbyterian at Ellsworth, Minnesota. Rev. Buschman also served as Moderator of Presbytery and as a delegate to the General Assembly several times. He and Emma came to Grundy Center in 1959. While in Grundy Center, Rev. Buschman served as moderator and interim pastor in ten different churches.

He was preceded in death by his wife Emma in 1988; his parents; and by one sister, Annie.

Survivors include one sister, Reaka Buschman of Belmond; one brother, Harm B. Buschman, also of Belmond; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf and Rev. Paul Buschman officiated. Mrs. Dorothea Appel was the organist and Marvin Boelman sang "Be Still My Soul" and "The King Is Coming". The congregation sang "Amazing Grace."

Casketbearers were David Flage, Nathan Hager, Philip Buschman, Emery Neymeyer, Rev. Donald Martin, and Lester Neymeyer. Honorary Bearers were Nyles Herman, Harvey Koelder, Grant Flage, Ralph Helming, Jim Bultman, and John Berschman. Ushers were Edward Flater and Roger Hook.

Burial was at West Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in rural Ackley.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
