Abe deNeui Services Held

Abe deNeui passed away on September 8 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo having reached the age of 93 years, 4 months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held on September 10 at 1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church of Wellsburg with Pastor Max Zscheigner officiating. Interment was in the Shiloh cemetery, Wellsburg.

Lary Riebkes and Richard Schafer sang "I'm But A Stranger Here" and the congregation sang "I Know My Redeemer Lives." Mrs. Norman Harms was the organist.

Casket bearers were his grandsons: Jeff deNeui, Paul deNeui, Dan Janssen, Mark Zimmermann, Bryan deNeui and Jonathan Zimmermann. Honorary casket bearers were Marcia Janssen, Laura Janssen Busse, and Leah Zimmerman. Ushers were George Sietsema, Kenneth Cordes, and Donald Gummert. Flower attendants were Mrs. Ann Murra and Mrs. Albert Huisman.

Abe deNeui was born April 16, 1898 in Shiloh Twp. the son of John and Catherine Jaspers deNeui. He was baptized at the Second Reformed Church on December 28, 1924. In 1953 he became a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Wellsburg.

On August 11, 1932, he married Clara Panthen in Eldora at the brides parents' home by Rev. C. Hesse. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. He farmed in Shiloh Twp. all his life until he retired in 1963. In 1968 Abe moved to Wellsburg to the home which he built.

Abe was very active in church and community affairs including being a member of the school board while the new school was being constructed. He served as Justice of Peace for several years. Abe was a man who was ready to help whenever it was needed.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Jay and John deNeui; and two sisters, Floy Bergman and Fannie Kannegieter, and a host of relatives and friends.

Survivors includes his wife Clara; a son, Ronald and wife Karen of Wellsburg; two daughters, Kathleen and husband Alfred Janssen of Waverly, Carol and husband Tim Zimmermann of Jefferson; nine grandchildren, Marcia and Dan Janssen, Laura and husband Kurt Busse, Jeff deNeui and wife Suzy, Paul and Bryan deNeui, Mark, Jonathan, and Leah Zimmermann; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jessica Busse; and three brothers, Roy and Ernest of Wellsburg, and Herman of Cedar Rapids.
