Meint Tjaden Dies In St. Petersburg, Services Held Here
Funeral services for Meint Tjaden, who died in St. Petersburg, Florida, Thursday, February 14, at about 7:30 p.m., were held here Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Tjaden passed away in the Mt. Park Hospital, following a heart attack which he suffered at his home around 5:30 p.m.
Services were held Saturday, February 16, at 3:30 p.m. at the Simmons Funeral Home in St. Petersburg with the Rev. Martin Rupprecht in charge.
The Wellsburg services were conducted by the Rev. Carl Toeset at the Doyen Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Luwe sang "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer: and "Beyond the Sunset", accompanied by Mrs. Ray Toomsen.
Mrs. Claire Albright and Miss Jessie Ruter were flower attendants. The pallbearers were Edward Frerichs, Edwin Brower, Bernard Buus, John O. Tjaden, Kenneth Dilly and John T. Riekena.
Interment was in Shiloh cemetery.
Mr. Tjaden was born September 30, 1886, to Mrs. and Mrs. John Tjaden. He was educated in the Wellsburg public school. On August 15, 1905 he and Reka Frerichs were married in Wellsburg. To this union were born two daughters and two sons. The Tjadens lived in Wellsburg most of their married life and had spent 16 winters in Florida. In 1955 they were permitted to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Tjaden passed away on November 28, 1959.
Mr. Tjaden married Mrs. Marjorie Hedlund of Joliet, Illinois on October 10, 1962. They have resided in St. Petersburg, Florida, since their marriage.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; a daughter Dorothy (Mrs. John Schalk), Davenport; two sons, Russell of Sarasota, Florida, and Mayo of Wellsburg; four grandsons, Steve Schalk, Tom Tjaden, Darryl and Douglas Tjaden; one brother Otta of Wellsburg; three sisters, Elsie, Mrs. Ben Peters; Anna, Mrs. Albert Meyer, both of Wellsburg, and Minnie, Mrs. Shirley Dilly, of Aplington.
Mr. Tjaden was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Reka, a daughter, Genevieve, a sister Pearl and one sister in infancy.
