John W. Kolthoff Dies in Veterans Hospital March 17

John W. Kolthoff died Sunday, March 17, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He had been in poor health for two years and had been hospitalized off and on for the past year.

Born in Ackley May 18, 1924, he was the son of Eltjo and Meta Kruse Kolthoff. He attended school in Ackley.

He and Jeanette Risius were married in April, 1948, and they lived first in Alden, then came to the Ackley vicinity. For the past six years he has worked for the Kruse Grain Co. and the family has lived at Cleves.

Mr. Kolthoff was a member of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, and of Elliott-Keninger Post of the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II, and served 27 months with the army in Germany.

Three brothers, preceded him in death, Raymond, who was killed in the Korean conflict, Kenneth, and Jerry, who died in infancy.

Survivors include his wife and two children, Linda, and Ronald, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eltjo Kolthoff, Hubbard; his maternal grandmother who lives at Marathon, Iowa; three brothers, Lawrence, Buckeye, Robert, Webster City, and Glen, Hubbard; and one sister, Elizabeth, Hubbard.

Prayer services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 1:10 at the family home and at 1:30 in the East Friesland Church with the Rev. Peter Eckhoff officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
