Assel U. Siltfang nee Herborg, the subject of this sketch was born April, 8, 1819, at Greetsiel, Germany, and passed away Sunday, February, 22, 1920, at the age of 100 years, 10 months, and 14 days.

On May 1st 1851 she was united in marriage to Hinderk L. Wiltfang at Campen, Germany. To this union four children were born, one son and three daughters. One daughter, Mrs. B. S. Pannkuk, and the husband preceded the mother in death. In the year 1858 the family came to this country and settled in Ogle County, Ill., where they resided ten years. From there they moved to Grundy County, Iowa where they resided continually until the death of the husband June, 1, 1910. Mrs. Wiltfang then returned to Shannon, Ill., where she made her home with her daughter Mrs. Dan Geerdes.

Two weeks prior to her death, with her daughter she went to the home of Harm Kramer near Harper on a visit, and apparently Mrs. Wiltfang's health was as good as usual, but on Sunday morning Feb., 22nd. the aged lady slept while her spirit left this world. Those who are left to mourn this aged mother are Fred Wiltfang, of Parkersburg; Mrs. Dan Geerdes, Shannon, Ill., and Mrs. Henry Helmers of Stout, Iowa, twenty-one grandchildren, fifty-four great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
