Mrs. Johanna Meyer Died Tuesday Morning

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the home and later at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church for Mrs. Johanna Meyer who passed away Tuesday morning at 5:35 a.m. at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo from a heart ailment. She had been ill at her home for some time and last Sunday morning was taken to the hospital.

She was born Johanna Wirtjes on March 21, 1872 at Emden, Ostfriesland, Germany and reached the age of 80 years, 2 months and 19 days. In 1888 when she was 16 years of age she came to this county with her parents, and they settled first at St. Joseph, Missouri, later moving to Butler county.

On Nov. 17, 1892 she was united in marriage to John M. Meyer and following their marriage they farmed on a farm northeast of Wellsburg. After the passing of her husband, Mrs. Meyer and her daughter Elsie moved to Wellsburg in the year 1930.

Those who mourn the loss of the deceased are three daughters, Mrs. Henry H. Meester of Parkersburg; Mrs. Harm Bulten of Ackley and Mrs. John Weichers of Wellsburg; also two sons, Henry of Cedar Falls and John of Aplington. Fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive.

Preceding the deceased were her husband; a daughter, Mina Ross on Oct. 5, 1933 and one son, Harry on April 5, 1909. A brother, Art Wirtjes also preceded her in death.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Meyer Held Last Friday Afternoon

Mrs. Johanna Meyer, nee Johanna Wirtjes, daughter of Henry and Stenna Wirtjes, was born on March 21, 1872 at Emden, Ostfriesland, Germany. She was called by the Creator on June 10, 1952 at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 19 days.

In 1888 when she was 16 years of age she came to this country with her parents first settling in St. Joseph, Missouri and later in Grundy County, Iowa. On November 17, 1892 she was united in marriage to John M. Meyer after which they lived on the farm a few miles west of the church. After the passing of her husband in 1919 she remained on the farm with the children until 1930 when she and her daughter Elsie moved to the town of Wellsburg. Here she was at home enjoying a measure of good health until April 13th of this year when she experienced a light stroke from which she seemed to be recovering until last Sunday morning June 8, 1952 when she entered the Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo for observation.

Those who mourn the loss of the deceased are three daughters, Mrs. Henry H. Meester of Holland, Mrs. Harm Bulten of Ackley and Mrs. John Weichers of Wellsburg; two sons, Henry of Cedar Falls and John of Aplington; 14 grandchidlren and ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Wirtjes of Grafton, Iowa.

Preceding the deceased were her husband; a daughter, Mina Ross in 1933, a son, Harry in 1909 and two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. in the home and following in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church of Parkersburg on June 13, 1952. She was laid to reset in the family lot on the adjoining cemetery.

Those attending the funeral were from Aplington, Parkersburg, Grundy Center, Plymouth and Grafton.
