Last Rites Held For Fred Terfehn

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon May 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the home and later at the Reformed church for Fred Terfehn. Rev. George C. Poppen officiated at the service. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Pall bearers were Henry Brower, Harris Harrenstein, John Lupkes, Anton Neessen, Almore Terfehn, and Menno Venenga.

Fred Terfehn passed away to his eternal reward on Thursday morning, May 19, 1955 in the Grundy County Memorial hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa having reached the age of 75 years, 8 months and 26 days.

He was born on August 23, 1879 in Grundy County of Aeilt Terfehn and Meike Meyer. Here he lived all his days.

In 1901 he and Reka Neessen were united in marriage. They lived 1/2 mile east of Wellsburg until 1947 when they moved to their present home in Wellsburg.

Mr. Terfehn made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ in the Wellsburg Reformed Church on October 13, 1912 and served his church well in the office of elder and deacon in the consistory. He was also a Sunday School teacher for many, many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Terfehn were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together on October 16, 1951.

He leaves to mourn his wife, four children namely Anna, Mrs. Fred Ruter; Anton; Aeilt; and Hattie all of Wellsburg. There are also six grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Three sisters surviving the deceased are Mrs. Margaret Stoehr of Clear Lake, South Dakota; Mrs. John Brower of Ackley and Mrs. Alice Harrenstein. Also surviving are three half-brothers: George Diekman of Aplington; Harm Diekman of Parkersburg and Dick Diekman of Hampton; and two half-sisters: Mrs. Wm. Conradi of Dike and Mrs. Fred Getting of Grundy Center.
