John Swede Died At Independence Hospital

Last rites were held Monday afternoon, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the John Doyen home for John Swede who passed away Friday noon May 20, 1955 at the Mental Health Institute at Independence, where he was taken on May 2, 1955. His death was due to general arterio sclerosis.

He was born on May 26, 1880 in Shiloh township southwest of Wellsburg. He spent his life working as a carpenter and also as a farm laborer. He reached the age of 74 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were in charge of Rev. George C. Poppen. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft sang at the services. Interment was made in the Shiloh cemetery. Pall bearers were Albert J. Geerdes, C. C. Neessen, Odie H. Meyer, John Snittjer, Roy deNeui and Elmer Fritzel.

Lifelong Shiloh Resident Is Dead

John Swede, 74, a lifelong resident of Shiloh township, died Friday noon at the State Mental Health Institute at Independence, where he had been a patient since May 2.

Death was due to general arterio sclerosis, or hardening of the arteries.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the John Doyen Funeral Home in charge of Rev. George Poppen. Burial was in the Shiloh cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert J. Geerdes, Claus Neessen, Odie Meyer, John Snittjer, Roy DeNeui and Elmer Fritzel. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was soloist.

Mr. Swede was born May 26, 1880 on a farm southwest of Wellsburg in Shiloh township. He worked for several years as a carpenter, and also was employed by Claus Neessen on the farm.

He had retired several years ago, and until the time of his death lived in an apartment over the Fritzel feed store. He never married.

Mr. Swede is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
