AGED PIONEER IS LAID TO HIS REST

Herman Harrenstein was born in Ostfriesland, Germany on January 12, 1839 to Berend and Antje De Wall Harrenstein. After spending his boyhood days in the country of his birth, he came to this country in 1868. He located at Forreston, Illinois, where he lived three years. Here he was joined in marriage to Aaltje (Aje) Van Hettinga in 1870. This union was blessed with 9 children, three of whom have preceded him in death, Ben, Omke, Infant Albertus. (Wife's obituary states 10 children).

In 1884 he and his family came to Grundy County. They bought a farm in Colfax Township, which was the same home during the years he lived in Iowa.

Interment took place in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Cemetery and services held in the church of which he was a faithful member. Rev. J. E. Drake assisted by Rev. Heinrich, preached from the text in Hebrews 13:14.

He is survived by his aged wife, 4 sons, Bert, Omke, Herman and Claus, 2 daughters Mrs. Jake (Jennie) Rindels and Mrs. Henry (Annie) Gronewold, 45 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Klinger from Marion, South Dakota, a sister of Mrs. Harrenstein and Mr. Hettinga, a nephew from Oregon, Illinois attended the funeral.
