John Spieker Dead
Old Time Resident of German Township Died at the Family Home at Aplington, Tuesday Last.
John Spieker died at the family home at Aplington, Tuesday last, after a comparatively brief illness, although he had not been in good health for some length of time. His death marks the passing of a man who was among the earliest of the early residents of North Grundy county. He, with his family, were for many years residents of German township, some miles southeast of Ackley, and relatives are numerous.
A good man for the community, he had served in various public capacities; as member of the Grundy board of supervisors; always a good, dependable man.
He was a brother of Mrs. Jerry Huisman and Mrs. Thos. Gersema, the two sisters and their brother all being married on the same day 48 years ago. Mr. Spieker married Miss H. Huisenga.
The deceased is an uncle of Jerry Spieker of German township and has other relatives hereabouts.
Funeral serves were held at Aplington Friday last; interment there.
