Former Resident Died at Titonka

Mrs. George Schutjer; Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Spieker

Friends were saddened Sunday morning when they learned of the death of Mrs. George Schutjer Sr. Mrs. Schutjer had not been in good health for some time but had been able to be up and about the house and made occasional trips to town and to see her children. Two weeks ago she was taken to a Mason City hospital for examination and treatment. She was found to have a tumor and was given treatments for it. Thursday conditions developed which made an operation imperative. The operation proved to be an extensive and severe one and was more than she was able to stand. She passed away shortly after midnight, June 28th, with her husband and children at her bedside.

Tillie Spieker was born on the 21st of August, 1871, in Grundy county, Iowa, and passed away at Mercy Hospital, Mason city, June 28th, 1936. She was 64 years of age. February 8th, 1893 she was married to George Schutjer of Ackley. They lived in Grundy county. The family moved to Kossuth county, where they have since made their home on a farm southeast of Titonka.

They were the parents of ten children, two of whom preceded the mother in death, an infant son and Mrs. Emma Dirksen. Besides the husband, the following children survive: George, jr., Wesley; Jerry, Titonka; Clarence, William and Raymond, Wesley; Mrs. Anna Wubben, Buffalo Center; Mrs. Ella Fox, Wesley; Mrs. Beaulah Nelson, Royal Oak, Michigan. There are sixteen surviving grandchildren. Outside of the immediate family, Mrs. Schutjer has three sisters and four brothers. They are: Mrs. Hiska DeVries, Aplington; Mrs. Clara Kuper, Ackley; Mrs. Matie Frericks, Gladbrook; Dick J. Spieker, Crystal Lake; Fred J. Spieker, Aplington; Jerry Spieker and Reinhardt Spieker of Ackley.
