Rites Held For Fritz Albers, 85
Friedrick "Fritz" W. Albers, age 85, of Wellsburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, at the Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, from a heart condition.
Funeral services were held at the Faith Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6. The Rev. Tim Diehl was the officiating clergyman.
Mrs. Merlin Bangasser and Mrs. Gordon Fritz sang "Until Then" and "Kneel at the Cross", accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Heetland, who also played the prelude and the postlude on the organ.
Casket bearers were James Albers, Michael Albers, Bernard Franken, Timothy Mortenson, Harold Ehmen, and Gaylan Winterberg.
Ushers were John VanLoh and Merlin Bangasser.
Flower ladies were Ella Riebkes and Marie Akkerman.
Burial was in the Shiloh Township Cemetery, Wellsburg.
Friedrick "Fritz" W. Albers was born on February 13, 1903, in Wilhelshaven, Germany to Talette Ludolfus and Diedrich Albers.
He came to the United States in October of 1924 and settled in Holland, doing farm work.
He married Alice Franken on February 8, 1932 at the home of Alice's parents in Parkersburg.
After their marriage they farmed near Dike for one year. Then, at Allison for seven years. In 1940, they moved to their farm north of Wellsburg. They retired and moved into Wellsburg in 1961.
Fritz graduated from high school in Germany. He was a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; 3 sons and their wives, Donald and Connie of Spring, TX, Alfred and Sue of Wellsburg, and Robert and Jeanine of Georgetown, TX; a daughter and her husband, Elaine, Mrs. Russell Maifield, of Creston. There are 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a sister, Reka Janssen of the Netherlands.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
