Jacob "Jake" H. Aalfs, 85, Wellsburg, died Tuesday, June 17, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Friday, June 20 at the First Christian Reformed Church west of Wellsburg with Pastor Tom Vos officiating. Burial was at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

He was born May 16, 1918, in Wellsburg, son of Henry and Hattie (Harms) Aalfs. He attended Shiloh Township School and worked for many area farmers as a hired hand during his youth. On May 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to Angeline Kuiper at the Bethel Reformed Church of Allison. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army, Company B of the 826th Engineering Battalion, from February of 1942 until September of 1945. After returning home from WWII he started farming in the Wellsburg and Ackley areas raising dairy cattle, hogs, and chickens. In the spring of 1981, he retired from farming and moved into Wellsburg.

He was a former member of the Second Christian Reformed Church (presently called the United Reformed Church) of Wellsburg and served in the Consistory as an elder and deacon. Presently, he was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of rural Wellsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Angeline; a son, Jim (Ernestine) of Conrad; 2 daughters, Judy (Leland) Riebkes of Wellsburg and Janet (Dan) Wieberdink of Andover, MN; 2 brothers, Harm (Arvilla) of Holland and Lawrence (Margaret) of Parkersburg; a daughter-in-law and brother-in-law; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, and a sister.
