He received his education at German No. 5 of Ackley, Iowa, in a one-room school a half mile from his parents' farm. His favorite subjects were History and Spelling.

He was baptized April 1, 1917, by the Rev. T. W. Engelke. He became a member of East Friesland Presbyterian Church on April 21, 1946, was ordained a deacon on December 28, 1958, and was ordained an elder on January 1, 1972.

The engagement culminated in marriage on December 12, 1945. Delbert and Hilda were united in marriage by Rev. William Landsiedel at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Manse and resided together on their farm for 41 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Hilda; brother John R. and sister Mary Cobie.

Delbert leaves his brother Fred of Waterloo, his daughter Troyce Fisher, and his son Douglas.

A favorite bedtime prayer listed for memories:
"Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray, Thee, Lord, my soul to take. Amen."
