Alene Huddleston Renner, 94, of Sun City Center, Florida, formerly of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Thursday, October 11, 2001, at Sun Terrace Nursing Home, in Sun City Center, Florida, of congestive heart failure.

Alene was born November 22, 1906, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Maggie (Lutterman) Hook. She graduated from Wellsburg High School where she was a star basketball player. She attended Ellsworth Community College and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in 1925. On December 31, 1926, Alene was united in marriage to Roy L. Huddleston. They lived in Nevada, and Des Moines, Iowa, as well as Decatur, Illinois, and Sun City Center, Florida. Roy preceded her in death in 1974. She married Walter S. Renner on July 11, 1981, in Sun City Center, Florida.

Alene served on the Macon County Board during the 1960s and retired from that post in 1967. She was a life master in bridge, and very active in the Central Illinois Republican Party, and the Macon County Hospital volunteer programs. Alene was also involved in the First Methodist Church in Decatur, Illinois, and the United Community Church in Sun City Center, Florida.

Survivors include her husband Walter Renner of Sun City Center, Florida; a son Jack Huddleston and his wife Mary Ann of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Bonita Springs, Florida; daughter Jean Gjetson and her husband Bill of Plymouth, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren David, Elizabeth, Bruce and his wife Celeste, Sandra, and Lori; 5 great-grandchildren Erin, Maire, Isabelle, Noelle, and Mollie; and many other relatives and friends.

Alene Huddleston Renner, 94, of Sun City, FL, formerly of Wellsburg, died October 11 at Sun Terrace Nursing Home of congestive heart failure.

Local memorial services will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 17, at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with Pastor Harold Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. There will be no visitation.
