Kevin Dean Mennen was born to Merlyn and Marlene (Paterni) Mennen on June 5, 1958 at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was baptized in the Salem Lutheran Church and made a profession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior in the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. He attended and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1976 and then pursued training at the Iowa Operating Engineering School in Des Moines. He was employed by the Blackhawk County Conservation Board as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of AFSCME local #679. At various times Kevin would also work in the timber industry in Iowa. He loved the outdoors. Kevin's hobbies included fishing, collecting International Harvester memorabilia, motorcycles, tractor pulls and any mechanical work. He loved to work and found his employment a genuinely productive and satisfying experience.

On May 6, 1983 Kevin and Barbara Anderson became husband and wife at the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg (presently Christ Covenant Church). He was an active member of this church and was serving as deacon and church treasurer at the time of his death. He was active in the Adult Sunday School Class as well as the Friday Night Bible Study/Discussion Group. He was also a member of the Wellsburg Community Club and Wellsburg Historical Society.

Kevin is survived by his wife Barbara of Wellsburg; one son, Daniel and one daughter, Sarah both of Wellsburg; his parents, Merlyn and Marlene (Paterni) Mennen of Holland; his maternal grandmother, Annie Paterni of Grundy Center and his paternal grandfather, Bruno Mennen of Allison; many nieces and nephews and one great-nephew.

Kevin was preceded in death by his maternal grandfater, Herman Paterni and his paternal grandmother, Henrietta (Miller) Mennen.

Kevin Mennen Services Held

Kevin Dean Mennen, 39, of Wellsburg, died Friday, June 6, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota from complications with pulmonary hypertension.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 9, at the Christ Covenant Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Douglas Holmes officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.

Kevin was born June 5, 1958, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls the son of Merlyn and Marlene (Paterni) Mennen. He attended and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1976 and went on to the Iowa Operating Engineering School in Des Moines. He worked for the Black Hawk County Conservation Board as a heavy equipment operator.

On May 6, 1983, he was united in marriage to Barbara Anderson at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsubrg. Kevin was an active member of the Christ Covenant Church in Wellsburg serving as a Deacon and church treasurer. He was active in his Adult Sunday School class and Friday Night Bible Study and Discussion Group. He was also a member of the Wellsburg Community Club and Wellsburg Historical Foundation. He was a member of the AFSCME Local #679.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Barbara of Wellsburg, 1 son, Daniel and 1 daughter, Sarah, both of Wellsburg; his parents, Merlyn and Marlene Mennen of Holland; his maternal grandmother, Annie Paterni of Grundy Center; and his paternal grandfather, Bruno Mennen of Allison.

Kevin was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Herman Paterni; and his paternal grandmother, Henrietta (Miller) Mennen.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
