Benjamin C. Lynde was born in Ripley county, N. Y. September 12, 1813. He removed with his parents to Boston when quite young and there he spent his youth and early manhood. At the age of twenty he was united in marriage to Miss Clarissa Pierce. They moved from Boston to Collins, Erie county, N. Y., where twelve of their children were born. In 1867 they came west and settled near Marengo, McHenry county, Ill. In 1871 they removed from there to Blackhawk county, Iowa, where they remained till '73, when they settled on a farm in Grundy county. They have lived in Grundy Center about seven years. Two of their sons, Myron and D'La are buried here and four children died in the east. Their thirteenth child, Charles, was born in Illinois. Thus a large family were born to them, seven of whom are living--Mrs. Marinda Stafford, Detroit, Mich.; Theodore, Armstrong, Ia.; Maria, Mrs. Emma Odell and G. K., Grundy Center; Wm. M., Marshalltown, and Charles of Ocheyedan, Iowa. The children were all at their father's bedside when the end came and together with the aged mother have the sympathy of the community in their loss. Deceased died from the effects of his third stroke of paralysis and was unable to speak to his family from the time he was attacked. He lived to be 82 years, 9 months and 7 days old, and passed away June 19 at 9:30 o'clock a.m. The funeral was conducted from the M. E. church, Rev. Smith preaching the sermon. A large number of friends followed the remains to their last resting place and the family appreciate the many kindnesses shown by all in their hour of sorrow.
