The death of Mr. Freeman Hasbrouck occurred at his home in the south part of town June 18th, 1896. He had been a constant sufferer for a number of weeks with the dread disease, cancer. Some time since he consulted specialists and endured some very heroic medical treatment but he gradually grew worse till the death messenger claimed his spirit and relieved him of his sufferings. The deceased was born in Ulster county, N. Y. May 20, 1849, where he resided with his parents till 1865 when they moved to Vernon Mills, Mich. From there they came to Cedar Falls, Ia., in 1868 and to Grundy Center in March, 1871. On July, 4th, 1873, he was married to Miss Catherine Burke and ten children has been the result of the union, seven of whom are living. His mother, one brother and three children had preceded him to the better land. He leaves to mourn his death besides his wife and children, and aged father and several brothers. He was a believer in the Word of God and confessed his faith in the Savior last March and received the Sacrament of baptism by Rev. Bourland D. Smith. On April 26th he again confessed his Savior in the Holy Eucharist. Rev. Smith conducted the funeral from the M. E. church Sunday morning at eleven o'clock. He was a kind and devoted husband and father and a good neighbor, and his taking away is deplored by a large circle of friends.
