Funeral services for Mrs. August Flater, who died suddenly following a heart attack at her home in Grundy Center on Tuesday night of last week were at the Engelkes Funeral Home at 1:30 Saturday and later at the American Lutheran church in Grundy Center. The service was conducted by Rev. Walter Tillman from Waverly. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran church cemetery north of Fern.
Mrs. Flater was born in Lincoln township, Grundy county, August 15, 1884. Her maiden name was Tillie Rewerts. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Rewerts. She grew up on a Grundy county farm. On March 19, 1907, she and August Flater were married. They resided on farms in Lincoln and Washington townships until they moved to Grundy Center twelve years ago.
She was baptized October 12, 1884, at the Lutheran church at Wellsburg, and was confirmed at Salem Lutheran church March 31, 1901, where she remained a member until the organization of the American Lutheran church in Grundy Center. Mrs. Flater was a faithful and active member of the church, and especially in the Women's Missionary Society.
Surviving are the husband; two sons, Alvin from Jesup and Arthur from Holland; three daughters, Louise, Mrs. Vernon Reinicke, and Leola, Mrs. Carl Schmidt, of Grundy Center, and Minnie, Mrs. John B. Arends of Parkersburg.
Surviving also are four brothers: Edward Rewerts, New Hartford; Fred, Parkersburg; Dick, Allison; and Will at Oakdale. There are three surviving sisters, Mrs. Lena Janssen of Waterloo, Mrs. Alma Hayes of Dike, and Mrs. Robert Thoren of Cedar Falls. There are 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter in infancy, one brother and one sister.
Mr. and Mrs. Flater observed their golden wedding anniversary March 19, 1957.
