Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Van Tiger, 87, of Grundy Center, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church with Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Van Tiger died Friday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, where she had been a patient for nine weeks.

Sarah Luitjens Van Tiger, daughter of Hendrick and Susanna Fonken Luitjens, was born September 30, 1884, in Shiloh township, Grundy county.

She was married to Charles Van Tiger on December 13, 1904, at the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church parsonage.

The couple farmed in Shiloh township for several years, and then farmed northeast of Holland in Colfax township until they retired to Grundy Center 25 years ago.

Mrs. Van Tiger was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church for 58 years. She also was an honorary member of the United Presby. Women's Association of the Bethany Presbyterian Church of Grundy Center.

She is survived by her widower; two sons, Henry of Ackley and Harold of Anaheim, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Susanna) Baugartner, San Marino, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, her parents, three brothers, three sisters and three sisters in infancy.

Special music for the service was provided by Mrs. Tom Simms, accompanied by Mrs. Hiriam Dieken. Casket bearers were Lee Schulz, William Hartman, Calvin Kruse, Lester Harken, John Niehaus and Arthur Meester.

Mrs. Bernard Kruger and Mrs. Harm G. Hook were in charge of floral arrangements. John Paterni and Harm G. Hook served as ushers.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
