Mrs. B. M. Venenga Dies Monday; Cancer the Cause

Mrs. B. M. Venenga died Monday evening at her home three miles east of Wellsburg. She had been in failing health the past two years and was confined to her bed the last three months of her life. She was afflicted with cancer. Her husband died six years ago. At the time of his death he was 73, the same age as Mrs. Venenga.

Mrs. Venenga's maiden name was Hilkea Neessen. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Neessen. She was born near German Valley, Ill., July 14, 1869. She was 73 years, 6 months and 24 days old at the time of her death. She came to Grundy county with her parents when a small child and she grew up here. The family resided in this community continually. Mrs. Venenga was married to Buss M. Venenga on February 3, 1888. The marriage was performed by Rev. Vander Las, who at that time was pastor of Colfax Presbyterian church. Mrs. Venenga was a member of this church from early in her life until her death.

Mrs. Venenga was the mother of three children, two sons and one daughter. The sons who survive are Anton and Menno. The daughter, Mrs. Henry Schulte, died a few years ago.

Anton Lupkes, who is now in training in Camp Riley, Kansas, was raised in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Venenga, as was also Mrs. Ben Venenga, a sister of Anton Lupkes. Other survivors are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There is one sister living, Mrs. Fred Terfehn of Wellsburg.

Funeral Services Friday

Funeral services will be held at the home at one o'clock on Friday and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church. Rev. George Swalve will conduct the services. Burial will be by the side of her husband in the Colfax church cemetery. Her father and mother are also buried there.

Pallbearers will be Lubbert and Harm H. Meyer, John Ohling, Peter J. Meyer, Lee DeNeui and Henry Johnson.
