Wilbert Wilson Services Held

Wilbert Wilson, 73, of Grundy Center, passed away Tuesday, July 11, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, on Thursday, July 13, at 2 p.m. Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiated.

Dwayne and Elaine Sents sang "Softly and Tenderly," and "How Great Thou Art." The accompanist was Mrs. Larry Stahl, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Alvin Miller, James Bacon, Gene Schuck, Donald Miller, James Syhlman, Rick Mast, Les Muller and Wendell Muller.

Ushers were Herman Akkerman and John Seehusen. Mrs. Ruth Ascher and Mrs. Cora Slifer were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Wilbert H. Wilson was born May 23, 1916, on a farm near Shell Rock, the son of Ray Edward and Anna Karsjens Wilson. He grew up in the Aplington and Buck Grove area, and attended country school.

On July 1, 1939, Wilbert was united in marriage to Anna Muller at the Colfax Center Church Parsonage near Holland. After their marriage, he worked on various farms in the area for 25 years, moving to Grundy Center in 1964. After moving, he worked for the Grundy Center Light and Power Co., retiring after 8 1/2 years because of failing health.

He became a member of the Colfax Presbyterian Church in December of 1941.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Henry Brower; and by one sister, Marie Diehl.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, of Grundy Center; his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Shirley Wilson, Grundy Center; daughter and son-in-law, Lorna and Claire Venenga, Stout; two grandsons and one grand-daughter-in-law, Kevin and Andrea Wilson, and Kurt Venenga; four half-sisters, Grace Meents, Holland, Henrietta Smeins, Parkersburg, Caroline Fuls and Anna Mae Brower, both of Grundy Center; and one half-brother, John Brower, of Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
