C. Wilbur Bakker, 84, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, at his farm home northeast of Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, in Grundy Center, on September 19, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiated.

Mrs. Arlan Schaap sang "In Times Like These" and "In The Garden." The accompanist was Mrs. T. J. Heronimus, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Ronald Hager, Richard Hager, Daniel Davis, Mark Craigmile, Mark Klahsen, Dennis McKee, and Randall Hager.

The ushers were Edward Flater and Charles Ware. Mrs. Vernon Kruger and Mrs. Robert Abels were in charge of the floral arrangements.

C. Wilbur Bakker was born on July 24, 1904, on a farm in Lincoln township, to Walter M. and Fannie Kruse Bakker. He grew up and attended country school in Lincoln twp., and graduated from the Grundy Center High School in 1922. After graduating he started farming with his parents.

On February 5, 1930, he was united in marriage to Ella Tack at her parents' home in Colfax township. After their marriage, they farmed near Grundy Center. In 1978, he semi-retired, and in 1983, he retired from farming.

He was a 63-year member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church. During that time, he served three 3-year terms as Elder and three 3-year terms as Deacon. He was the Sunday School Supt. for several years and held several other church offices and positions.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Shirley; and by one infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Ella; one son, Donavon, Fort Atkinson, WI; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Norma) Hager, La Porte City, and Mrs. Luman (Sharon) Colton, of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Manton Bakker, of rural Grundy Center; 11 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
