Benjamin A. Franken, 64, mayor of Holland for 10 years, died at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center early Wednesday morning.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Holland Christian Reformed Church with burial in the Colfax Center Cemetery. The Rev. John Entingh will officiate with Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Born in Colfax Township, Grundy County, April 1, 1907, he was the son of Jacob A. Franken and Annie Alberts. He moved to Holland in 1929 and attended Grundy College in Grundy Center for two years.
Mr. Franken was employed as the auto registration clerk in the Grundy County Treasurer's Office for many years. He was also employed by the Iowa State Tax Commission for eight years. He worked as bookkeeper for the Farmers Cooperative Elevator Company in Holland and the J. S. Lumber Company in Grundy Center.
Mr. Franken was mayor of Holland for 10 years and would have stepped down from his post Jan. 1. He was a member of the Holland Reformed Christian Church, the Holland Community Club and the Grundy County Peace Officers Association.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Anna) Luiken and Mrs. Andrew (Alice) Heerts, both of Grundy Center. He was preceded in death by two infant brother, two brothers, two sisters and one half-brother.
