Herman Marlin Akkerman, 92, of Grundy Center, passed away on October 7 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held October 11 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Herman was born on March 16, 1909 near Parkersburg, the son of John and Sena (Konken) Akkerman. On February 1, 1932 he was united in marriage to Janet Rindles at the Salem Lutheran Church, rural Parkersburg. Herman farmed north of Grundy Center for 40 years. He worked for John W. Ross Construction Company. They built roads in Grundy, Butler and Black Hawk counties. Herman was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church to which he served as a Deacon and Usher.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Sietsema.
Survivors include his wife Janet of Grundy Center; a son, Donald and his wife Florence of Hemut, CA; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; on great-great-grandchild; a brother, John and his wife Dorothy Akkerman of Parkersburg; and a sister, Bertha Andressen of Parkersburg.
