Fred J. Draper, 86, of rural Eldora, passed away Monday, November 21, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center in Marshalltown from complications of cancer.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Ivester Church of the Brethren, rural Grundy Center, with Pastor Marlene Neher officiating. Burial was at Sheller Cemetery, Eldora.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Draper, Roger Hogle, Howard Hogle, Lee Hogle, Mike Schwarck and Larry Hughes.

A memorial fund is being established.

Fred was born March 28, 1908, the son of Frederick O. and Lillie E. Miller Draper in rural Conrad. He attended Melrose Twp. Country School #8.

On December 28, 1932, he was united in marriage to Florence A. Bockes at the bride's parental home in Grundy county. He was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren and was a retired farmer. He also was a member of the Conrad Lions Club, Pork Producers, Farm Bureau, Sheller Cemetery Assoc., Sheep Growers Assoc., Grundy County Historical Society, Grundy National Bank New Perspectives Club and was a Melrose Township Clerk for 25 years.

He is survived by 4 daughters, Helen Price of Panora, Mary Swindall of Vernon, Texas, Lois Draper of Altoona and Alice Johnson of Des Moines; 2 sons, Dale L. Draper of Vickery, Ohio, and Glen E. Draper of Eldora; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and 1 sister, Lillian Emmons of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, on April 13, 1979; his parents; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers.

The Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad, was in charge of the arrangements.
