Services for Warren D. Eyre, 80, of 1 Palmer Street, and longtime Grundy Center resident, who died Saturday, Aug. 17 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines of heart failure, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home. The Rev. Greg Frost of the Center Street Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sheller Cemetery near Wellsburg.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Monday where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Military honors will be performed by the Grundy Center American Legion. A memorial fund is being established.

He was born Sept. 15, 1910, in Buckley, Ill. to Lawrence and Myrtle Eyre. He graduated from Buckley High school.

In World War II he served on the U.S.S. Cleveland in the South Pacific, as a Seaman First Class.

On Feb. 14, 1946, in Grundy Center, he married Marlys Schwarck. They resided for one year in Gilmore City before returning to Grundy Center where they raised Tennessee Walking Horses. In 1983, he retired to Marshalltown.

He was a member of the Grundy Center American Legion, the Center Street Baptist Church and the Horseman Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, a brother, Lloyd Eyre of Buckley, Ill., and a sister, Myrtle Schneided of Melvin, Ill.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
