John T. Cretin, 69, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Eldora, died Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala of natural causes.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora with burial to follow in the Sheller Cemetery in Grundy County. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora on Thursday with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1928 in Steamboat Rock to Martin and Mary Anna (Priske) Cretin. He attended and graduated from Steamboat Rock High School.

He married Doris Wyatt on March 23, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She preceded him in death. He later married Evelyn Hansen on Feb. 28, 1971 at the Congregational Church in Hubbard. He farmed most of his life in rural Grundy County.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Ocala; six sons, John of Seffner, Fla., Richard of Mesa, Ariz., Robert of Taylorville, Ill., Charles of Eldora, Jerry of Mesa, Ariz., and William of West Branch; three daughters, Darcy (Mrs. Mark) Eilders of Webster City, Cathy (Mrs. Kevin) Anderson of Cedar Rapids and Julie Dyer of Eagle Grove; 23 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a brother, Lowell, and a sister, Evelyn.
