Elsie Carter, 92, of Eldora, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Eldora Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Biersborn Funeral Home, Union, with the Rev. Tom Balm officiating. Burial will be in Sheller Cemetery near Ivester. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.

She was born Jan. 31, 1902, in Steamboat Rock to Richard and Cora Strickler Lau. She attended Eldora High School. She married Elmer Carter on Dec. 24, 1920, in Eldora. They farmed in Hardin and Grundy counties, and later owned and operated grocery stores in Hubbard and Waterloo. She moved to Eldora in 1961, and worked at the Variety Store, Food Locker and Blanche-Ethel's Tea Room. She moved to Valley View Care Center in 1987.

She was a former member of the Whitten Methodist Church, and later attended the Eldora Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Richard of Eldora; a daughter, Helen (Mrs. Del) White of Newton; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest Lau of Gladbrook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1961, three sisters and a brother.
