Glen H. Button of RR2, Eldora, passed away at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at his son's home in Conrad.
Memorial services were held at the Ivester Church of the Brethren, rural Grundy Center, on Friday, May 1, at 2 p.m. The officiating clergy were Phil and Louise Rieman, Dean R. Button and Tim Button.
The congregation sang "When Peace, Like A River" and "My Faith Looks Up To Thee." The accompanist was Mrs. Charles Kruse, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Dwight Heikens, Todd Button, Jon Button, Lynn Button, Tim Button, Greg Ringena and Jeff Thill.
The ushers were Clarence Slifer and Mrs. Lee Hogle. Mrs. Lyle Neher, Mrs. Marvin Moats and Mrs. Carl Moats were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Family committal services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the Sheller Cemetery, rural Grundy Center.
Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the memorial services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
Mr. Button was born on August 15, 1910, on his parents' farm in Melrose township, Grundy county, the son of R. W. and Frances Miller Button. He attained the age of 76 years, eight months and 14 days.
He grew up on the family farm and attended country school at Melrose #2. He graduated from the Eldora High School in 1928. After graduation, he started farming on the family farm.
On October 3, 1931, he was united in marriage to Dora S. Smith, at her sister's home in Melrose township. After their marriage they farmed and lived on the Button farm their entire married life, retiring in 1979, but continuing to live on the farm.
He was a long time and active member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren, serving as a Deacon for over 50 years, also serving as church treasurer for many years. He also served several terms as township trustee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Dale S. Button.
He is survived by his wife, Dora of RR2, Eldora; two sons, Glendon D. Button of Conrad and Gary E. Button of RR2, Eldora; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Jean) Heikens of RR1, Steamboat Rock; one brother, Dean R. Button of Marshalltown; one sister, Mrs. Glen (Gladys) Moats of RR1, Grundy Center; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
