Gail Petersen, 81, of the Iowa Veterans Home, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel with chaplain Jim Key officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery, rural Whiten. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to service time at the chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family. Biersborn Funeral Home in Union is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Sept. 21, 1917, in rural Grundy County to Herman and Alta (Essig) Boike. She attended Melrose #8 Country School and graduated from Eldora High School in 1935. She took nurses training in Marshalltown.
She married Roy Petersen on Aug. 22, 1937, in Boone. They lived in Boone and then moved to a farm near Ivester community, rural Grundy County. They moved to the IVH in 1990. She was a waitress at various places and had a catering service, serving Grundy, Marshall and Hardin counties.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Seelye of Coralville, Linda Sawin of Caralville and Jackie Beane of Lancaster, Wis.; a son, Steve of Eldora; a brother, Miles Boike of Eldora; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Duane Boike.
