Lois R. Hess, 86, of Eldora, Iowa died on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Following cremation, memorial services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Creps – Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Pastor Richard Boatman officiating. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home from 10 am until service time at 11 am. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lois was born August 22, 1924, in Postville, Iowa, daughter of Louis and Rose (Bellis) Benson and graduated from country school in the Postville area. On November 26, 1941 Lois was united in marriage to Clarence Hess at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora. Lois and Clarence made their home in Eldora, where she worked several part-time jobs, and they raised their family of six children, Joan, Loretta, David, Mike, John and Angie. Lois was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed collecting angel and cardinal figurines, reading, working puzzles, playing cards, and really looked forward to attending senior social dinners at the Methodist and Lutheran churches.

Surviving is her children, Joan and husband Larry Harter of Lexington, Ohio, Loretta and husband Shorty Reinertson of Eldora, Mike and wife Joyce Hess of Iowa Falls, John and wife Kathy Hess of Eldora and Angie and husband Jeff Waterhouse of Huntersville, North Carolina; brothers, Lyle Benson and Fred Harrington; 18 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren; and by 1 great-great grandchild and a step-great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on July 29, 2008; son, David Hess; sister, Lorraine Brainard; and brother, Laverne Benson.
