Evelyn Pike, 88 of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at United Methodist Church, Grundy Center with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Interment will be immediately following the funeral service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home.
Evelyn Marie (Johnson) Pike was born on December 20, 1921 in Austin, MN to Oscar W. Johnson and Anna Carlson Johnson. She graduated from Austin High School in 1939 and worked as a private secretary for the N.F. Banfield Corporation in Austin as the personal secretary to the vice president for 5 years.
Evelyn married L.C. “Bud” Pike on January 30, 1944 in Austin, where their first two children were born. In 1948, they moved to Waterloo, IA followed by a move to Grundy Center in 1949, where three more children were born.
Evelyn was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center and served as treasurer for 7 years. She was active in Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and various church and community groups.
Evelyn dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed traveling, walking, gaming, card playing and all sporting events her children and grandchildren were involved in through high school and college.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Bud; two sons Richard Pike of Des Moines and David (Deborah) Pike of Fleming Island, FL; her two daughters DeeAnne Pike (Greg Meenan) of Rochester Hills, MI and Donna (Scott) King of Des Moines; her sister Dorothy Anderson of Austin, MN and her grandchildren Jennifer Pike of Dallas, TX, Bryan King of Des Moines and Brittany King of Des Moines.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Robert Pike and her brother Richard B. Johnson.
