August W. Wulf

Lead--Services for August W. Wulf, 96, of Lead, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Lead with the Rev. Dwayne Knight officiating.

Burial will be in the New Underwood Cemetery under direction of Fidler Funeral Chapel of Lead.

A memorial has been established to the church.

Wulf died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Deadwood.

He was born July 3, 1884, at Schlammersdorf Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Ludwig and Dorthea Hinz Wulf. He moved to the United States with his parents in 1886. The family lived in the Wellsburg and Reinbeck, Iowa, areas.

Wulf moved to LaCrosse, Wis., and attended school as a telegraph operator for the Northwestern Railroad. He moved to New Underwood and was station master until he began farming.

He married Maurine E. East June 27, 1919, at New Underwood. The couple moved to Lead in 1925 where he worked for Homestake Mining Co. until Dec. 1, 1949.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lead and Homestake Veteran's Association.

Wulf is survived by his wife, Maurine of Lead; one brother, Emil, of Rapid City; two sisters, Miss Matilda F. Wulf of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Ann Ross of Wellsburg, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and two sisters.
