Laurence B. "Hap" Lutterman, 83, of Wellsburg, died September 4 at the Ackley Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Funeral services were September 6 at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Burial followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Military rites were conducted by Wellsburg AMVETS Post No. 91 and American Legion Post No. 213. A memorial fund has been established.
Laurence was born on September 3, 1918 in Wellsburg, the son of Albert and Florence (Riekena) Lutterman. He attended Wellsburg Schools and graduated from the Wellsburg High School. Laurence served in the United States Army during World War II. He entered active service in November 1942 and was honorably discharged in October 1945.
On April 17, 1948, Laurence was united in marriage to Irma Groninga at the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church in rural Wellsburg. They made their home in Wellsburg where Laurence farmed and then later worked for Mid Equipment in Grundy Center as a machinist and also later he worked at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls as a machinist.
Laurence served on the Grundy County Board of Supervisors from January 1954 through December 1969. For many years he was very active in the Democratic Party. He enjoyed reading the newspaper to keep up on current events on all levels. Laurence was very supportive of Wellsburg High School athletics. He was a member of the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg, the Democratic Party, and he served for many years on the Shiloh Cemetery Board in Wellsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Lutterman of Wellsburg; son, Dave (Darlene) Lutterman of Wellsburg; daughter Sheila (John) Bohr of Waterloo; brother, Alvin (Alma) Lutterman of Holland; five grandchildren, Jamie, Brianne and Carson Lutterman, Joanne Averhoff and Joe Bohr; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter at birth, Tricia Katherine Lutterman.
