Mrs. John E. Meester, nee Sophie Oelmann, was born in German Township, Grundy County, June 21, 1887 to Johann Dietrich Oelmann and his wife Geska Akkermann. She grew to maturity at home with her parents. She was united in marriage to Chris Christians on October 7, 1908. This union was blessed with one daughter, Nellie and one son, Dick. After nearly ten years of marriage, Mr. Christians passed away on February 7, 1918. On February 19, 1919, the deceased was married to John E. Meester. This union was blessed with one daughter, Anne.

Mrs. Meester attended the house of worship faithfully until she became afflicted with arthritis. This painful burden confined her to her home and wheel chair for some 18 years. In all her suffering, she remained a loving and faithful wife, mother, and grandmother. She spoke often of her Lord and Saviour whom she trusted and loved dearly and whose grace was sufficient for her. In her declining days, she mentioned frequently, "Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I have kept thy word." Psalm 119:67. The last request she made before lapsing into unconsciousness was that the family repeat with her the Lord's Prayer, which they did.

She passed away at the Grundy Memorial Hospital on Saturday afternoon August 27, after having been taken there on August 22. She reached the age of 68 years, 2 months, and 6 days. She is survived by her husband, and three children, one grand child, Charles Christians, two brothers, John H. Oelmann and Henry J. Oelmann, both of Parkersburg, and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services were held in the Stout Reformed Church with the Pastor, Reverend A. Roskamp in charge. The burial took place in the church cemetery.
