Yvonne Sietsema, 88, of Wellsburg, died July 24 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were July 27 at Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. A memorial fund is being established.

Yvonne was born September 29, 1915, in Wellsburg, the daughter of Sam and Gertrude (Getting) Ross. She attended country school in Melrose Township until 1924 when her family moved to Kanawha and she finished grade school there. The family moved back to Grundy County in 1930 and she attended and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1933. On February 24, 1937, she was married to Herman Sietsema at the parsonage of Second Christian Reformed Church by the Rev. J. C. DeKarne. She worked as a waitress in the local restaurants and as a relief telephone operator and grocery store clerk the first few years of marriage. They moved to the Sietsema home farm in 1941 when Herman's parents retired. They lived on a farm south of Grundy Center for 6 years and then bought their own farm in Pleasant Valley Twp where they built a new home and made many other improvements. They sold the farm and retired and moved to Wellsburg in 1970. They were members of the Second Christian Reformed Church since their marriage but transferred to Wellsburg Reformed Church in December of 1990.

They enjoyed working and doing things together in their farming and leisure time. They thoroughly enjoyed going on fishing trips with friends to Minnesota and Canada. They were always willing to help a friend in need and Yvonne helped take care of her ailing mother for 20 years, and later helped her father so he could live alone in his own home as long as he was able. They enjoyed socializing with family and friends. They loved to play cards and bingo.

She is survived by her brother, Delbert and his wife Wilma Ross of Wellsburg; a sister-in-law, Louise Ross of Grundy Center, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman on April 18, 2004; her parents; an infant brother; and a brother, Donald.
