Delbert F. Hippen, 83, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Faith Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, Iowa, with Pastor Allen McClure and Pastor Timothy Diehl officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, rural Ackley. Visitation will be Friday, February 15, 2008, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present to greet friends, at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Delbert Fredrick Hippen was born October 13, 1924, in German Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Mattie (Riebkes) Hippen. He remained in Grundy County while growing up, and attended rural country school. On March 21, 1949, Delbert was united in marriage to Grace Boekhoff at East Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, Iowa. After their marriage, Delbert and Grace made Wellsburg their home. Delbert farmed for several years and then worked for Triple R (Ross Brothers) in Wellsburg, operating heavy equipment. Delbert then worked with his dad at Hippen Shelling and Grinding, where he later purchased the business from his dad. Throughout these years, Delbert also worked as a Feed Salesman for Golden Sun Feeds and later International Feeds. Delbert also helped with snow removal for the city of Wellsburg for several winters. On December 11, 2006, Delbert's wife Grace died, and he continued to make Wellsburg his home.

Delbert had served as a former volunteer fireman with the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He had served as a past Trustee at East Friesland Presbyterian Church and also mowed the church grounds. He was currently an active member at Faith Presbyterian Church, where he continued to mow the church grounds. Delbert enjoyed taking bus trips and going to Branson, Missouri. He especially enjoyed listening to the Gaither Gospel Group. During his retirement, Delbert also enjoyed making wood crafts, camping with his family and having garage sales. Delbert looked forward to tea time every afternoon. Delbert loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons- Craig Hippen and his wife Donna of Charles City, Iowa; Steve Hippen of Wellsburg, Iowa; one daughter, Cindy Skramovsky and her husband Michael of Beaman, Iowa; two grandchildren- Heather Eichenberger and her husband Jeremy of New Hampton, Iowa; Haley Hippen of Ames, Iowa; three great-grandchildren- Noah, Aleah, and Jennifer Grace Eichenberger; one sister, Anna Marie Card and her husband Larry of Parkersburg, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Mary Hippen of Wellsburg, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Grace; one granddaughter-Jennifer Jean Hippen; and one brother, Raymond Hippen.
