William Buchan Died Sunday

William Buchan, who had resided in Grundy county continually for 65 years, died Sunday (18 January 1948) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Orlen Stout, in Grundy Center. His health had been failing the past six months. He was confined to his bed for three weeks before the end came. Advanced age and a weak heart were the cause of his death.

Memorial services were held at the Coffman & Ferree Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Morrison cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. M. B. Green, pastor of the Grundy Methodist church.

Obituary

William Buchan was born in Bright, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 9, 1864. He was orphaned at the age of 7 years, and when he was 13 years of age he came to Cedar Rapids to live with an uncle and aunt, till he was 18, at which time he moved to Grundy Center. At an early age he was baptized and joined the Presbyterian church. In the year 1887 he was married to Luella Jane Swartz and from this union 9 children were born. His wife and 5 children preceded him in death. For the past 13 years Mr. Buchan had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Orlen Stout of Grundy Center.

William Buchan is survived by four children: Mrs. L. R. Hogset of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Wm. Bennett, Chicago; Mrs. Orlen Stout, Grundy Center; and James Buchan of Dike. One brother, John, lives in Cedar Rapids, and there are 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Relatives from away who were here for the funeral of William Buchan on Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bennett of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. John Buchan, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dameron, Mrs. Grace Nelson and Mrs. DeVere Smith, all of Cedar Rapids.
