Mrs. W. M. Buchan

Mrs. William Buchan, whose maiden name was Luella Swartz, was born in Perry county, Penn. September 24, 1868, and died at her home four miles southeast of Grundy Center, Monday afternoon, Mar. 22nd, 1909. She lived in Pennsylvania until fourteen years of age, when she moved, with her parents to Grundy County, Iowa. She was married to Wm. Buchan, Feb. 24, 1887, after which they moved to South Dakota, remaining there for three years when they returned to Grundy county, and lived here until the time of her death.

Mrs. Buchan leaves a father and mother, two brothers and two sisters. The father and mother Mrs. and Mrs. Swartz, her two brothers, Roy and William Swartz, and her sister, Mrs. Arthur Poland all live at Gladbrook, Iowa. The other sister, Mrs. Herbert Elliott lives near Morrision.

Mrs. Buchan was the mother of nine children, three of whom died in infancy; those living are Maye Elizabeth, now Mrs. Orlen Stout, Earnest William, Ana M., James Raymond, Lyle Clifford and Nellie Margaret.

Mrs. Buchan united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Grundy Center by letter from the M. E. church at Morrision on September 28th, 1908.

The funeral services were held at Morrison Wednesday afternoon, March 24th, at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Black of Grundy Center preaching the sermon. Interment at Morrison.
