Mrs. Geo. Canfield Died This Morning

Mrs. George Canfield died at her home in Grundy Center at four o'clock Thursday (29 June 1944) morning. She had been in failing health a number of years. She was in the hospital at Marsalltown several weeks for care and treatment and was brought home a few weeks ago. She was 56 years old.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Methodist church.

Was Born in Grundy County

Luverna A. Thomas, daughter of Oscar and Mary Thomas, was born near Morrison, Iowa, Aug. 19, 1888. Her mother died when she was a small child and she lived with her grandparents until she grew to womanhood. The family moved to Grundy Center Feb. 28, 1905.

She married George Canfield Oct. 7, 1914, at Grundy Center, where they have resided continually since that time.

Mrs. Canfield joined the Methodist church in Grundy Center in 1910. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid, a charter member of the Bethany Circle, and was a member of the Sunday school since childhood. She was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women's club. She joined the Woman's club in 1938, and was a member of the Flower Committee of the Methodist church for years. She assisted her husband in the store since 1929.

Both parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband and one sister, Mrs. Goldie Jaspers, and numerous nephews and nieces.
