Helen Mooty Hennessy, 74, Dies In Florida
Funeral services for Helen Mooty Hennessy, 74, of Pompino Beach, FL, and Walloon Lake, MI, were held Thursday, September 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Van Horn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale, MI with Rev. William Payne of the First Methodist Church officiating.
She passed away on August 29, 1982 at Walloon Lake, MI after a long illness.
Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale.
She was born September 6, 1907 in Washington Township, Grundy Co., IA, the daughter of William A. Mooty and May Kaufman Mooty. She graduated from the Reinbeck high school in 1924.
She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce from the University of Iowa in 1928 and a Master of Science degree in commerce in 1930.
She was an Assistant Professor of commerce at Bradley University in Peoria, IL from 1931 to 1934 and an Associate Professor of Economics at Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, MI from 1935 to 1946.
She was an honorary member of the Hillside College Board of Women Commissioners, a member of the Tower Club in Fort Lauderdale, FL, a patroness of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and a member of the Delta Zeta sorority.
She was married to Gerald D. Hennessy, a druggist, in Hillsdale, MI on June 12, 1937. He preceded her in death at Pompino Beach, FL on May 8, 1982.
She is survived by her brother, W. L. Mooty of Reinbeck, IA and two nieces, Marcia Edenfield of Bakersfield, CA and Helen Boyer of San Juan Capistrano, CA.
